Iv seen loads of videos where there are people on mountain bikes with the gopro hero attached to their head, and the video has always looked really good. I wanted to test it out for myself, however i am far to much of a pussy to do anything that would look remotely cool or impressive on a downhill section with my mountain bike so instead i tried a more soft core approach. Here the gopro was attached to my ventilated helmet with the supplied strap that comes with the goprohero2 outdoor edition. And i went for a cycle along the union canal from Ratho back to Edinburgh. (The union canal is the canal that goes from edinburgh to glasgow via the Falkirk wheel, very famous in scotland.) it is flat, as most canals are but there are some small little bumps on it. I recorded the video in the 960p so that i could get the most amount of field of view, i then imported it into final cut and converted it to 16×9 ratio then added stabilisation. The stabilzation sucked big time, it zoomed it in so far that most of the time you were just looking at a tiny bit of path, so i had to dial the stabilization down a lot, down to only about 0.75 on transitional and even less on the rotational and zero on scale. i then did some speeding up of the footage which you will see as i have annotated the video with the percentage of the speed that i have increased it by. . in general it seems a bit more difficult than i expected to get good smooth bike footage and that was even on a flat surface.
